In the early 1990s, the City of Corpus Christi was ready to tear down the old USO Club on the Corpus Christi bayfront. A group of local artists led the charge to preserve the building and raised funds to locate the Art Center of Corpus Christi in the facility.
The result is now an architectural gem on the city's bayfront which showcases popular works by local and national artists. The Art Center of Corpus Christi is home to 11 arts organizations. In addition to the main gallery, the 14,400-square-foot building houses a main gallery and four studios where artists can be seen working during visitor hours.
The Art Center displays a variety of wonderful work from artists, including watercolors, sculpture and photography. A clay studio encourages artists to complete works-in-progress in front of visitors. Workshops, outreach projects and other events to promote the arts to the public are an integral part of the Art Center of Corpus Christi as well.

The Harbor Theater was created in 1925, when a group of like-minded actors formed the Harbor Playhouse Company. The troupe performed about four plays per year until the Great Depression. Then in 1935, the group reformed under the name Little Theatre Corpus Christi. In 1948, the organization incorporated. The group officially changed its name in 1976 to the Harbor Playhouse Company.
